Apple Fix – Reset NVRAM and Start in Safe Mode


1 – Reset NVRAM

NVRAM includes: Speaker volume + Screen resolution + Startup disk selection + Recent kernel panic info

Step by step:

  1. Shutdown your Mac
  2. Locate: Command + Option + P + R
  3. Turn on your Mac
  4. Press: Command + Option + P + R (After you hear the startup sound)
  5. Hold the keys till hear the startup sound again (second time).
  6. Release the keys

2 – Reset SMC (System Management Controller)

Try restart application or press power button 10s before doing this.

  1. Shutdown your Macbook
  2. Plug in Magsafe or USB-C to macbook
  3. Press: Shift + Control + Option (left side) + Power (same time)
  4. Release all keys, then press the power button again to turn on your Mac.

3 – Startup in Safe mode

For troubleshooting, following those steps:

  1. Shutdown your Mac
  2. Press power button
  3. Immediate after you hear startup tone, hold down Shift key (remember after you hear startup tone).
  4. Release shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac normally without holding any keys.


Troubleshoot imessage cannot login:

  1. Reset NVRAM
  2. Startup in safe mode
  3. login to imes
  4. reboot in normal mode
