#PS509 – The famous Myers-Briggs personality types are categorized into 4 dimensions of personality preferences. These preferences are not a measure of our intelligence, just our comfort zone for thinking. What is the difference between the sensing and intuitive personality types?
A. What might be versus evidence available
B. What feels right versus sense of right
C. Hard data versus what might be
D. Hard data versus analysis of data
Answer C is correct as the sensing type personality is more concerned with the “hard data” – takes in the information/facts vs. intuition is more concerned about “what might be” – relies on their instinct.
Sensing can be further defined as: Paying attention to physical reality, what you see, hear, touch, taste, and smell. You are concerned with what is actual, present, current, and real. You notice facts and remember details that are important to you. You like to see the practical use of things and learn best when you actually see how to use what you are learning. In other words “experience” speaks to you louder than words. You solve problems by working through the facts until you understand the problem at hand.
Intuition can be further defined as: Paying the most attention to impressions or the meaning and patterns of the information you receive. You would rather learn by thinking a problem through than by hands-on experience. You are interested in new things and what potentially can be possible, so you think more about the future than the past. You prefer to work with symbols or abstract theories, even if you don’t know how to use them. You solve problems by going between different ideas and new possibilities.
Both answers A and B are incorrect as they are they are in order of – Intuitive vs. Sensing not Sensing vs. Intuitive.
Answer D is incorrect as both ”Hard data AND Analysis of Data” would be typical of the sensing personality.
